Question: I bought a external hard drive for backing up data I care about and I was wondering is there any form of a catch or anything I need to keep in mind with external hard drives? For example if something were to happen to my computer requiring me to get a new one / reinstall the operating system or something along those lines, I should be able to just plug in the external hard drive on a fresh install OS / new computer and retrieve all the data off the external drive correct?

Sorry for the stupid question, just wanna make sure I don’t plug in a external hard drive backup if / when I need it to find out I can’t retrieve data off it for some random reason or another I didn’t know about
