Question: I have an old Sata HDD from around 2007 that I used until 2013, when the old pc finally died
The HDD has quite a few gigs of photos that I would like to recover, but the problem with the HDD is that it’s severely infected with Sality (and possibly other viruses)…It had Win XP installed
What cable do I need to connect it to my current PC (or to a laptop) ? The PC runs Win 7 and the laptop is on Win10, I just don’t want to spread the malware

Answer:A USB-SATA dock is strongly preferred over a cable.
With a dock, you can power up that drive only after the host system is already running.

And for a drive with known infections, I’d probably boot up with a Linux LiveUSB, and skip Windows completely.
